In September 2025, this Motor Yacht underwent a comprehensive ceramic coating removal project at STP Shipyard in Palma de Mallorca. The objective was to fully remove existing ceramic layers from key exterior areas, preparing the yacht’s surfaces for future paint or coating applications while ensuring technical compliance with industry standards.

A total of 1,221 sqm of exterior surfaces was treated, including the exterior combings of the superstructure and the hull on both port and starboard sides. Cerashield’s specialised ceramic removal gel was applied to safely and effectively eliminate existing coatings, followed by independent verification testing to certify complete removal.

This project ensured that the yacht’s surfaces were restored to a clean, coating-free state, providing a technically verified foundation for subsequent refinishing works.

  • The yacht required the complete removal of existing ceramic coatings across critical exterior areas, including the hull and superstructure. The challenge was to achieve thorough removal without compromising the integrity of the underlying paint system, while meeting the strict technical requirements of future paint or coating applicators.

    Given the scale of the surfaces and the complexity of the yacht’s geometry, the process demanded a controlled, methodical approach supported by independent verification.

  • Cerashield implemented a structured ceramic removal project using its own removal gel. The process involved multiple controlled applications, agitation, and activation cycles to break down and eliminate the existing ceramic layers.

    Protective measures were applied to surrounding surfaces and fixtures, followed by systematic cleaning and inspection. To ensure full technical validation, independent FT-IR testing was carried out by Optimiza, providing certified confirmation that the ceramic coating had been successfully removed.

  • Once the ceramic layers were removed, the surfaces were left in a neutral, prepared state suitable for repainting or re-coating. Proper interim maintenance, including controlled washdowns and surface protection, is essential to preserve surface integrity until the next stage of finishing is applied.

  • The ceramic removal project on this 74m MY successfully delivered a technically verified, coating-free surface across more than 1,200 sqm of exterior areas. The project demonstrated Cerashield’s capability not only in coating application but also in complex removal operations, ensuring compatibility with future paint systems and supporting long-term asset protection.
