Restoring Brilliance

Workers using a cherry picker to perform maintenance or inspection on a large black yacht docked at a marina.

80m | MY | Project in Italy

Project Duration: May-June 2025

In early 2025, our client, a 80m motor yacht, underwent a major refit at the prestigious Amico Shipyard in Italy. With a new owner eager to bring the vessel back to her original glory, maintaining and protecting the yacht’s extensive painted surfaces became a top priority. After a competitive selection process involving test areas from multiple providers, Cerashield Spain was chosen, thanks to unmatched results and our trusted relationship with the shipyard.

Over 1,600 sqm of painted surface, from the hull to the superstructure, was meticulously restored and coated using Cerashield’s proven ceramic systems, ensuring long-term protection, gloss retention, and reduced maintenance demands for the crew.

  • The yacht paintwork had suffered years of sun, salt, and over-polishing damage, leaving areas porous, faded, and lacking gloss. Gloss readings in some areas had dropped as low as GU 4.5. The new owner wanted a solution that would:

    • Restore the vessel’s high-gloss finish.

    • Protect against further UV and saltwater degradation.

    • Reduce ongoing cleaning requirements for the crew.

    • Extend the lifespan of the existing paint to avoid costly early repainting.

The vessel’s large surface area and variety of conditions, from heavily weathered hull sections to soot-stained waterlines, required a multi-system approach without disrupting the refit schedule.

  • Following test patches that demonstrated gloss restoration from GU 4.5–9.1 up to GU 91.6–93.4, Cerashield Spain was awarded the project.

Scope of Work – Total Area: 1,626 sqm

    • CS 7 Pro Micron Ceramic Coating Service – Hull, inner surfaces, transom and superstructure

    • CS 10 Micron Ceramic Coating Service – Waterline & Sponsons

Through precision polishing, contamination removal, and multi-layer ceramic coating application, Cerashield restored the yacht’s finish to a deep, uniform gloss, while sealing the surface for long-term durability.

  • Cerashield Spain will carry out annual gloss reading inspections to identify and recoat any down-glossing areas. The yacht’s crew will maintain the coating using Cerashield Ceramic Washdown, a pH-neutral maintenance product designed to extend the coating’s life.

Following these recommendations will ensure the vessel’s paint remains protected for years, reducing future refit costs and keeping cleaning times to a minimum.

  • Cerashield’s work on 80m M.Y. has:

    • Prolonged the life of the paint, delaying costly repaints.

    • Reduced crew cleaning time thanks to the coating’s hydrophobic properties.

    • Restored the yacht’s prestige with a uniform, mirror-like gloss across all treated surfaces.

The project not only met but exceeded the expectations of the new owner and crew.

  • For example, the results speak for themselves.
